← Back to My Experience

Overview & Responsibilities

I would contribute to a smooth and professional live sports production by operating cameras and graphics systems. My role involved capturing high-quality video footage, managing camera angles, and ensuring that all graphics displayed during the broadcast had accurate stats and were visually appealing. This would happen in both indoor and outdoor settings, requiring adaptability to different lighting and weather conditions.

This involved setting up cameras, adjusting angles, and ensuring high-quality video capture throughout the event. My favorite camera to work was always handheld camera for basketball and volleyball games, because it allowed me to get up close and personal with the action and I felt as if I had faster control with the camera.

  • Would find the best possible camera angle at the most opportune times.
  • Learned how to communicate properly over busy comms channels during high stakes moments.

Graphics Operator

Graphics Operator

Ran graphics for various events, including basketball games, hockey games, and other live sports productions. This involved setting up graphics systems, managing graphics displays, and ensuring that all graphics were accurate and showed at the right time. My favorite graphics to work with were the player stats and fun facts, because they allowed for some creative freedom to display something unique.

  • Setup graphics system and imported the correct graphics for each sport.
  • Find correct stats from different reliable websites and stat trackers to ensure correct graphics.
  • Learned how to Fax the Big10 network for pre-show check-ins.

Audio

Only ran audio a few times, but it was a great experience to learn how to run audio for live sports productions. This involved setting up audio systems, managing audio levels, and ensuring that all audio was clear and balanced throughout the event. My favorite part of running audio was being able to manage when the broadcast would hear the crowd and the players on the court or field, which added an extra layer of excitement to the production. This also required me to pick the right music for the right moments when transitioning to and from commercials.

  • Used a standard audio mixer to control audio for live sports broadcasts.
  • Picked songs for highlights packages, intros, and bumps to commerical.
  • Followed the Director closely to ensure the audio mix sounded to his vision.
