Unreal Engine Fortnite (UEFN)

Game Designer/Developer

Overview & Experience

My friends and I had originally just picked up UEFN to test our game dev knowledge and see how we could apply it into a special use case like UEFN and we ended up loving it. We made many projects and published them to Fortnite for anyone to play. We learned how to use blueprints, the Unreal Engine scripting language, to create complex game mechanics and interactions. We also learned how to use the Fortnite Creative tools to design and build immersive environments. My favorite thing about UEFN is the ability to create and share our own games with the Fortnite community. It allows us to express our creativity and share our passion for game development with others.

Project Highlight

Spooky Gun Game

This terrifying gun game takes place in a spooky mansion where players must navigate through dark hallways and fight other players to be the last one standing. The game features a variety of weapons, each with its own unique abilities, and players must use strategy and skill to outsmart their opponents. The spooky atmosphere is enhanced by low lighting and haunting visuals, creating an immersive experience that keeps players on the edge of their seats.

  • Designed all the landscaping by hand.
  • Built main level area from and designed each room to my liking.
  • Created and applied all promotional material.

Tropical Gun Game

Same idea as spooky gun game, but this one takes place in a tropical paradise. Players must navigate through lush jungles and fight other players to be the last one standing. The game features a variety of weapons, each with its own unique abilities, and players must use strategy and skill to outsmart their opponents. The tropical atmosphere is enhanced by bright colors and vibrant visuals, creating an immersive experience that keeps players engaged. This is probably my favorite project I have designed and sculpted using the Unreal Engine environemnt tools. I think I did a pretty good job and I am very proud of it.

  • Created atmosphere and environment from ground up.
  • Experimented with different outdoor lighting mechanics to make the game look realistic.
  • Implemented and designed a spawn island + it's mechanics.

Costco VS. Sam's Club

This is where we started to have a little fun, probably my most meticulous project. I designed the entire map and it is a Sam's Club on one side and a Costco on the other with a giant parking lot dividing the middle. The parking lot took a lot of time and each stripe, arrow, and piece of garbage was carefully placed to make it look as realistic as possible. I was determined to give this map my most attention to detail and I think I really hit it out of the park. I know it's not a traditional game and more of a joke/fun game but I wanted to show that I can make a map that is not only fun to play but also looks great and has a lot of detail.

  • Hand designed every single detail down to the litter outside.
  • Figured out custom texturing to be able to import the respective store logos.
  • Created the weapon walls and made sure the game had good weapon balance.
